My name is Katie Malloy, and I am the new Farm to School Coordinator for Seabrook School District! I'm very excited to work with the wonderful staff, educators, and administrators at SES and SMS to get local foods into the cafe, and to get students out to the school garden. We have some big plans in the works for the near future, so stay tuned. I'll be posting updates about all the exciting things happening - things like cooking demonstrations in the cafe, garden clean-up days, and delicious, kid-tested recipes from the garden. At Seabrook, my goals will be helping to source fresh foods from local farms for the cafe, transforming the school garden a living classroom, and integrating experiential cooking, gardening, and nutrition education into the curriculum.
A little about me - I grew up in New England, and studied art at The Rhode Island School of Design. After graduating, I decided to use my creativity to grow veggies instead! I worked and learned on farms around Boston for a couple of years. I spent 2014-2015 serving with FoodCorps in rural North Carolina, before moving to the seacoast of NH to be close to mountains, ocean, and family. I also currently work at Throwback Brewery in North Hampton, where I grow fruits, veggies, flowers and herbs for the brewery and farm-to-table restaurant. Thanks for the welcome! Katie Malloy Recently, students in grades 5-8 created beautiful "Farm to Seabrook" themed logos, which were displayed at lunch to the entire school. Though it was a very difficult choice, as they were all wonderful designs, we asked the students and teachers to vote on their favorites. The results are in...browse through the designs below, then scroll down to see the winning design! These drawings will be used to publicize farm to school programming within the school, and one will be turned into a professional logo for branding purposes. Look for them around campus! And the winner is.....
